Snow Snow glorious Snow!!

>> Wednesday, December 31, 2008

I woke up this morning to 6 glorious inches of snow. I know most people think SNOW SUCK but I really do love it. It is so beautiful! My funk immediately disappeared. I went and make the kids a big hot breakfast of pancakes, bacon and eggs. We bundled up and went out to enjoy the fluffy fun. The kids love to play in the snow, I love that they get some fresh crisp clean air! I snapped a couple of pictures then grabbed the shovel. I don't mind shoveling and do as much as I can. The snow was very heavy so I was only able to do the stairs, walkway and parking spots for the two cars before my back was begging me to quit but the little work out in the cold air really made me feel good. I chased the kids around in the back yard a bit more before I took my two snow bunnies upstairs to warm up.

Here are a few pics!!

Post Christmas Funk

>> Monday, December 29, 2008

Every year after Christmas I get into a funk. I don't know if it's because there is nothing Fun to look forward to anymore or what. I feel just blah. I have lots of chores to do but wish it would all just go away so I could crawl into bed and sleep for 3 days. I'm trying to get excited about a new year, new start and hopefully *knock on wood* a new job!

I've been desperately trying to find a job at home so I can be here with my kids and take some of the financial stress off Chris. He works so hard and I know it's getting to him. Hopefully 2009 will bring some good for us.

TWO MORE SLEEPS!!

>> Tuesday, December 23, 2008

I can't wait! I think I'm looking forward to tomorrow night more then anything. Dragging out the gifts, stuffing the stockings, watching Chris put together Christopher's tool bench and learning some new swearwords! Nothing says Christmas Spirit like Dad putting together kids gifts at 2am :)

Tomorrow is our family dinner and hopefully (weather permitting) bundling up and going out to look at Christmas Light displays. 8pm also brings a very special family tradition. Hour 1 of 24 hours of A Christmas Story on TBS! Santa got Chris the 20th's Anniversary Edition DVD but he won't get to open it until Christmas morning and really its not Christmas without the TBS Marathon, commercials included!

It's not that cold, just play!

>> Saturday, December 20, 2008

We got a good foot or more of snow since yesterday, and it's still coming down in big fat snowflakes. Of course being a mom with a camera, I had to get the kids outside! So, at 8:30am they were dressed and out to play if they wanted to or not! Elizabeth was very excited but Christopher, well he really wasn't sure what he was getting himself into. The snow was deep and fluffy so when he fell, he couldn't get up. Of course being the mom I am, instead of helping him I laughed and took pictures while he struggled. Good times Good times.

Another weather related post but I'm so excited. We had a little snow storm last night and a couple more coming up this week! The week will stay cold, not too cold, just right. Elizabeth will be off school for winter break at the end of this week so they will be able to go out and enjoy and play! I love snow for Christmas, it really helps get me in the mood!

Ice Storm 08

>> Saturday, December 13, 2008

All over our local news the story is ICE STORM 08! They way they say it, it sounds like there is some major DECISION 08 withdrawals!

A major storm passed through the North East on Thursday and Friday bring lots of Ice, Sleet and Snow to my area. For the most part, Amsterdam got sleet. For those who don't know what sleet is, its basically icy snow caused by snow flakes hitting a warm spot in the atmosphere as they fall, melt then hit a cold zone and freeze again.

Over 217,000 homes and businesses were and are still without power in my area. Warming shelters are up all over and people are trying to stay warm as it could be days before power is restored.

One corner market down the street from where Chris works caught on fire from a live power line that had been down for almost 12 hours before the fire started! The fire dept couldn't do anything about the fire because the line was still live.

Here is a niffy video from our local news station.

Feeling random

>> Thursday, December 11, 2008

I don't really have anything of importance to say. It is a miserable day outside. Freezing rain/sleet/snow. I am cool with snow, in fact I love it! Snow angels, snow men, watching the kids little cheeks get all rosy as they play! I can't wait to get the camera out there and take some pictures of their snow adventures. I hate ice and sleet. It scares me. The roads and sidewalks become death traps. Trees and power lines get heavy and start to break. It is just a crappy situation when ice is involved.

Elizabeth has a Santa Store at school today. The PTO set it up for the kids to secretly(with mom's money of course) by presents for their family members. Each item is $1-10, most ranging from $1-5. I dug through Elizabeth's piggy bank and found $10 dollars worth of quarters! I added a $5 bill and wrote down $5 for each of us. When she buys her gifts, they will wrap and address it and she can bring it home for under the tree. I think this is a great idea for the kids!

Christopher is finally popping through his missing canine teeth but the process has been long and cranky! He is miserable! Sadly, his big molars are next and neither of us is looking forward to that! He has been in his big boy bed for a couple of weeks now and seems to be doing too except for the issue he has with climbing onto his radiator to look out the window at night and first thing in the morning. I don't know how to break him of this! I guess it could be a lot worse!

Chris got a promotion at work. A small raise and better bonus, but it comes with a price. He is back working in the accounts department, this time as the manager. He started off in accounts last year. The hours are longer 9-9 and the stress is greater. Basically now, he goes around to people's houses to collect the owed money and if not.. he repo's it! Most of the people are pretty good about paying or saying goodbye to their furniture but there is always the asshole who needs to act tough.
The other part of his job means driving the big delivery trucks up and down big steep hills...and well remember the ice I mentioned earlier? I worry. Hopefully, he will get his own store soon and it will be in the area so we don't have to move. I was all set to move earlier in the year but now that Elizabeth is in school and making friends I would prefer to stay here. At least until the school year is over.

I've wrapped almost ALL the presents! I have one more coming in the mail but that is it! Christopher's big gift won't be wrapped but rather put together with a big red bow. We are so lucky to have such caring people in our lives that helped us out tremendously this year. It will be a Merry Christmas in the Boggie house... hopefully Drama free!

I know she understands and I know there will be other concerts but damn if I don't feel like a huge ass.

Turkey Eyes

>> Friday, November 28, 2008

Our first Thanksgiving a home just the 4 of us went perfectly.

The turkey was so moist, the sides were delish and my very first pumpkin pie was so yummy. I have always made a good turkey, rubbing it down with a mixture of butter, poultry seasoning, salt and pepper. The sides I'm pretty good at as well! The pie, however, I was a tad bit worried about. I got the wrong ingredient for the recipe, grabbing sweetened condense milk instead of evaporate. A very stupid move considering the recipe I was using was right on the can of Libby's Pumpkin!

Chris had warned me that he is very picky about pumpkin pie and if it doesn't turn out good he might be ruined from pumpkin pie for years! I half laughed at him but in reality, I've had a bad pumpkin pie experience myself! Back when we lived in Williams Lake, my parents made a pumpkin pie. They often baked together but this time they BOTH added the sugar in. The result was an overly sweet pie with a layer of melted sugar on top. It was horrible. Because of my ingredient mistake I was so worried we would have a sickeningly sweet pie! I decreased the amount of sugar by half hoping it would equal out.

Chris took one bite and made an awful face. My heart sank a little until I realized the Jerk was faking! He approved of my pie!

After our filling dinner and our pie, we settled down on the couch to watch Home Alone while the turkey worked it's magic.

A few photos our meal

The Good, The Bad and the Injured.

>> Saturday, November 22, 2008

We should start with the good...everyone likes the good first right? One of the great ladies on one of my playgroups(Elizabeth's age) dug through her son's too small clothes and found some snow pants for him! Not only that but a couple of warm clothes and even a winter jacket or two! YAY! She was thankful to get rid of it to someone who needs it and I'm thankful I don't have to loose anymore snow pants to the mail thief! Oh about the mail? They are putting a flag on our address with instructions that all parcels are to be left inside the front door. She is sending her parcels to me through UPS. They are awesome and the UPS guy is easy on the eyes.

With the good there is always bad. And bad would be the two creatures I spawned. I don't know if its cabin fever from it being so cold out or what but these two kids have just been monsters lately! This morning, they were fighting over a car and Christopher bit Elizabeth in the chest. Right on her little boob. She now looks like she was part of some kinky S&M porno!

Speaking of pain. Chris out did himself yesterday. He teased me beyond belief when I nearly cut my thumb off with scissors on Christopher's birthday but now Karma has showered him in his own blood. Wow, that was a little too descriptive.
Anyway, yesterday at work while trying to cut some wires the sliced his index finger deep with a box cutter. At first, he though it's not that bad. That was until he saw the pool of blood on the floor. After soaking through 4 thick towels, they decided it was best to take him to the hospital. 6 stitches, a Tetnus shot and 4 shots of Lidicaine (which he said never worked) he went back to work. After wrappings paw, seriously with the bandages he reminds me of a dog with an injured wrapped foot, with a plastic bag so he could shower I finally got to see. 6 stitches on a cut that is about an inch long right along where your finger attaches to your hand. Stuff like that doesn't bother me a bit but it does him and while I'm looking at it, he is going pale. He doesn't find my interest in his injury at all amusing nor my jokes. Funny how he can dish it but can't take it. Typical man!

And the snow pant saga continues!

>> Thursday, November 20, 2008

Someone is stealing our mail. We had another package from eBay come with snow pants for Christopher, this time with delivery confirmation that never made it into my hands.

We filed a police report but really they aren't going to do anything about snow pants.

I really don't like people at times. Why steal someone else's package? I guess for the same reason anyone steal anything.

A couple weeks ago, I was dreading Christmas or anything to do with Christmas. I hate our tree, all the plastic tips had come off so decorating it was as much fun as wrestling a cat.

My wonderful parents took pity on me, I think because they know how much I love Christmas. They bought me a new tree. Pre-lit so I don't have to fight with the damn lights! I am SO SO excited to get this tree. I'm almost giddy about it! I hope it will be in(walmart site to store) next weekend so I can decorate it on black Friday. I'm going to use our extra lights to string up around the arch way. I already have it planned out, put some Christmas carols on the ihome, make some hot chocolate for the kids and I and trim the tree then settle down with some sugar cookies and maybe a Christmas movie.

Slightly more then a little annoyed

>> Tuesday, November 11, 2008

I bought a pair of snow pants on eBay. The seller listed the shipping as standard, priority both with the option of insurance.

I chose priority thinking, hey don't need insurance on a 7 dollar item when there is track and confirm!

Of course, the pants never came. She didn't pay the .70 for tracking in the office! If I had known, I would of given her an extra .70!! Priority mail is suppose to have tracking!!!

I'm going to wait until Friday, have been in contact with her but she seems to of washed her hands of me, if I still don't have anything by Friday I'll give her some negative feedback and go through eBay to get my money back.

I am spoiled. My parents spoil me way more then they should but when times are so tough for us, it's so nice to get something extra here and there. Especially when it's for the kids.

Last night my dad bought me a 6x9 black muslin for my little studio in the making. AKA, the place where I save money by taking pics of my kids at home instead of sears portraits.

I am so excited, I can't wait to get it! I have a roll of white salvage paper already so black muslin excites me! I can't wait to pull out some Christmas lights and take the Christmas card photo. Yes, we are those people.
