Welcome to the world Christopher!
Ok Ok, I know everyone is dying to hear the birth story.... its a long one!! 27 hours worth LOL
OK so here it goes...
On Monday morning I called my doctor and they told me to come into the office and get checked to see how my cervix was doing. We got there around 11:30 and she said it looked good, 1cm and thinning out. They sent me up to L&D to get settled in.
At 12:30 my midwife inserted a Misoprostol tablet to help ripen my cervix. It started some spaced out but regular mild contractions. Mostly just uncomfortable. At 6:30 she came back and inserted the Cervidal to see if it would get me into a stronger pattern. If not, it would come out at 6:30am and we would move on to stage 3.
Sarah came to visit and I was still spaced out but they were getting uncomfortable. All night some mild and some strong enough to wake me up. I wasn't on a monitor so I was able to try and get comfortable(as much as I could) and get some sleep. chris stayed in a fold out chair beside me.
The next morning they took out the cervidal and my other doctor(who delivered Elizabeth) came and said "ok well your 2cm and soft so can go home and wait or we can do pitocin... I think we should just go ahead and have this baby today" We agreed and they got me started on that. Not even 5 mins later, I was in labour. Contracting strong. Around 11, he came and broke my water and things really started to happen. The contractions were so strong they gave me morphine to take the edge off(oh and just so you know... it doesn't take the edge off at all, it just makes you too sleepy to care that your in horrible pain!!) This is when sarah came and we got ready to move me to my delievery room.
I was only like 3 cm and really really feeling the pain, she gave me my second dose of morphine and I fell asleep for like 2 mins waiting for my bath. FINALLY after like an hour it seems, they got me in the tub and I tried to relax. It wasn't easy.
Around 3pm I told chris I was ready to get out of the tub, I couldn't relax at all. They helped me to the bed and the doctor checked me...5 cm. They convinced me to get the epidural, I agreed and they gave me another dose of morphine. (mind you all this morphine is like 1/8th of what they would give anyone else) 10 mins after they gave it to me, I felt some pressure and was really really trying hard to breathe thru the pain but well I sucked and it hurt like a bitch. My next contraction.. PRESSURE. I knew the baby was RIGHT THERE. The nurse put on a glove to check me and as soon as she opened my legs, she knew that I was serious and yelled at chris to go get help.
I was pretty out of it mentally but was watching in a pain induced daze as 4 nurses ran around a bewildered chris trying to set up and the nurse beside me trying to get me to "breathe don't push"(yeah right) yelled "DID SOMEONE CALL THE DOCTOR!?!?" and swearing under her breath "5cm?? didn't he say 5? that was less then 15 mins ago" Dr. Dowling came in and had a sheepish grin on his face as the nurse scolded him "5cm Dr Dowing? You owe me two chocolate bars"
At 3:56pm, after only 1 push(I was holding back but he was sliding out on his own) CHristopher was born. They didn't even have time to break the bed down and the doctor didn't even catch him, he just slid onto the bed.
I didn't tear at all. I think the poor Epidural doctor was confused to be called up then told 'sorry you were too late" LOL
CHristopher weighed 8.85 lbs and 21 1/2 inches long(elizabeth was 8.6 20 inches)
Daddy was so very proud!
